REPAIRING A GARDEN WASTE CONTAINER

One of the more aggressive workmen used the mechanical dumper to lift my garden waste container and broke the handle off.  Not one to wait for a replacement of an otherwise good container, I chose to repair the container.

I've done this repair before but the container migrated over to Weybridge Place but is still in service.

The parts you will need to purchase at Home Depot (cost, about $6.95) are on the right.  I recommend that you purchase ½" flat head screws as the ¾" pictured are a bit too long.

Wash the container and allow it to dry thoroughly before proceeding.  Mark the container with a black marker using the mending plate as a template.

Drill holes slightly larger than the #10 screws with your trusty drill.

Place a screw in each hole, reach inside and place a lock washer and a nut on each screw and tighten with a screw driver.  The lock washer will prevent the screws from loosening in service.
Now that was easy!  You've saved Durham from spending for a replacement for a perfectly serviceable garden waste container.  Doesn't that satisfy your environmentally conscious soul?
