Observe the loose baluster. This rail
support is only tacked with two nails. The result is a wobbly
railing that is not very sturdy to lean on.
The paint on the railing was cracked and peeling and
beginning to rot and turn black. In keeping with my thoroughness, I
got out the trusty Ryobi belt sander and removed all of the peeling paint.
Do this before reinforcing the rail by using screws to fasten the
balusters.
Ah, that feels nice. The painters that
occasionally do the schedules paintings will most likely not do such
thorough preparation. But you can do it!
Clamp the balusters firmly to the railing.
Use your power drill to pre-drill holes for 3
inch galvanized deck screws.
Repaint the railing with the authorized Duron
100% acrylic exterior paint (8705 Barn Rafter Sher Color Formula).
